Once you have planted your advanced deciduous trees, it’s important to get the watering correct to ensure the tree survives and thrives.
Here is some important information when watering your newly planted advanced tree.
1. Target the rootball when watering
New trees access moisture from within the rootball. The water needs to reach down to the rootball, ensuring a slow and direct flow.
2. Water regularly
All trees will need to be watered regularly until the rootball is well established and roots can seek moisture independently. This could take 6-24 months, with watering frequency adjusting over time.
3. Most Rainfall will not deliver adequate water
Don’t adjust your watering schedule unless rainfall exceeds 50mm. Monitor site conditions to ensure adequate moisture.
4. Low and slow is the key
Allow the rootball to soak up as much water as needed. A dripper system with a slow drip on a timer is ideal. If irrigation is unavailable, a large container with a small hole can provide a similar outcome.
5. Check the tree regularly
To assess water levels, check soil conditions, weather, and seasonal changes, adjusting watering as necessary.
6. How much water?
Most advanced trees require approximately 20-30 liters of water per week after planting, but be guided by specific conditions.
